Fire Stopping

Building regulations detail the requirement for large buildings to be divided into compartments which must be maintained to ensure the containment of both smoke and fire should a fire occur. In the majority of buildings it is necessary for mechanical and electrical services to pass through these compartment walls and floors, causing voids which could potentially breach the fire integrity of the building if the correct fire stopping products are not installed.

SDH Services now use the Bolster Systems Fire Stopping App to electronically record all aspects of Fire Stopping projects.

In order to achieve the correct level of fire protection there are a range of fire stopping products available offering between 30 and 240 minutes fire protection.

Intumescent Coated Batts

Intumescent Coated Batts

Intumescent Coated Batts are high density mineral fibre boards coated on both sides with an Intumescent Mastic. They are designed with the sole purpose of stopping the spread of fire through any service voids in the fire rated (compartment) walls and floors of the building. Upto 240 minutes of fire protection is provided.

Intumescent Compounds

Intumescent Compounds

Intumescent Compounds are a single part gypsum based material used to seal around service penetrations such as pipes, ducts, cables and cable trays which pass through floors and walls and are specifically designed to re-instate the fire integrity of the building. Intumescent Compounds are quick setting and particularly effect in load bearing situations such as service risers. Up to 240 minutes of fire protection is provided.

Intumescent Mastic

Intumescent Mastic

Intumescent Mastics are either water based acrylic Intumescents or silicone based sealants. It is used to provide fire protection to gaps and movement joints and can also be used for all building and construction joints. When used in conjunction with Intumescent Coated Batts it also provides fire protection around service penetrations. Up to 240 minutes of fire protection is provided.

Fire Barrier / Curtains

Fire Barrier / Curtains

In buildings where there are large void openings or where there is the need to close voids above suspended ceilings or to divide roof spaces Fire Barriers or Fire and Smoke Curtains can be installed. There are many types of fire barriers and curtains available such as mineral fibre, woven glass to rigid boards, all of which will achieve the required levels of fire barrier protection.
